在美国阿拉斯加的一个小镇上，无缘无故地死了好几个人。这时，有一个著名的昆虫学家来到了这里，他同行的同伴也死了。经过调查后，他们发现了一个惊人的消息：原来这些死状恐怖的尸体全部都是由成百上千只蚂蚁群吞噬而死！他们又继续发现，蚂蚁群是根据每30°角的距离来袭击每一个地方，下一个目标就是他们所在的研究所。
这个时候，阿拉斯加小镇上的警官决定疏散小镇上的所有居民，同时那个昆虫学家去寻找蚂蚁的来源。他和一个小镇上的居民一起到了海边，那里有一艘10年前的沉船。船的原木里有蚁后产的卵。过了一会儿，蚂蚁群来攻击了，面对排山倒海般涌来的蚂蚁，他们用自己的武器消灭了一些，可惜数量太多，他们很快就要支撑不住了。这是他们看到岸边有一艘独木舟，他们上了独木舟，成功摆脱了它们。
